On this page is presented Mr. Belardo's series of large, terra-cotta, multi-figure, narrative compositions. This work is complex and Baroque in conception.
Mr. Belardo’s creative process develops composition though a dynamic system in which several figures interact physically. There is a spontaneous order that emerges over time from the interaction of individual figures. The result is a complex, yet delicately unified, narrative. A multiple figure composition is exponentially more complex and time-consuming to develop than a single figure composition. All the individual figures maintain their own physical completeness and logos. The multiple figures combine to create complex, narrative stories. The narratives address conceptions of sacred spaces from both classical myths and the stories of Genesis. The viewer is led through the composition by following dynamic lines and surfaces. These dynamics connect Individual figures to build narratives.
